Khan is the eldest kid of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first partner Sushila Charak (laterused the name Salma Khan). Khan's mom is a Maharashtrian, whose daddy Baldev Singh Charak comes from Jammu-Kashmir and momoriginates from Maharashtra. Khan's stepmother is Helen, a former actress. He has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan who is committed to VJ and actress Malaika Arora Khan, and Sohail Khan; and two sisters, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, who's married toprofessional/director Atul Agnihotri and an adopted sister Arpita.

He regularly features in listings of the very most influentialpeople in Indian culture, and in 2015 he ranked ahead of US President Barack Obama in the list of The Most Admired Personalities of India.
