Khan is the eldest boy of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first partner Sushila Charak (laterimplemented the name Salma Khan). His paternal ancestors were Pathan from present-day Afghanistan who immigrated to Indore, MadhyaPradesh. Khan's mother is a Maharashtrian, whose daddy Baldev Singh Charak originates from Jammu-Kashmir and momoriginates from Maharashtra. Khan's stepmother is Helen, a former actress.
